Have you ever been to a wedding and didn’t really know who all the people in the wedding party were, or got an invitation to a wedding but wish you could find out more information? That’s why we built a website for our wedding, and would like to offer the same to you.
We came up with this concept when we designed a website for our own wedding, August 18, 2007 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Since a lot of our friends and family are scattered across Canada, we wanted a way to let everyone know what was going on with our wedding in more detail than we could fit on an invitation. Since we already had experience designing websites, we decided to build one for our wedding. We got a great response from all our guests, and thought that others might want the type of website we created for ourselves.
When we started building our own wedding website, it started out containing only some basic information about our wedding day, the venues, and a few pictures. As people started to show an interest in it, we realized that we could use it for so much more. We added the story of how we met, pictures and a background description of our wedding party, a welcoming message, and an online RSVP form.
Through software we use in our family consulting business, we were able to create a web form for our guests to fill out on the website to confirm their attendance. We also designed a custom designed html email that was sent out to our guests to confirm that their RSVP had been received. In addition to the email our guests received, we also received an email every time someone filled out the form to confirm so we knew who was attending. This was awesome because it cut out the need to reply to RSVP emails and phone calls because the system did it automatically with a message we designed ourselves.
Weddings are always more fun to attend when you are close with the people that are getting married. But at every wedding, there is inevitably family or friends that you may not have seen in a long time, or only know the bride, the groom, or the parents. The wedding website allows everyone to get to know the story behind the happy couple.
If you’ve ever attended a wedding, you’ve probably heard the following questions:
Who are the people in the wedding party?
How do they know each other?
How did the couple meet?
What are they doing for work?
Where are they living?
What do they do for fun?
How do we get to the reception?
Those are all questions that aren’t practical to answer on an invitation, but with a website you can answer all the questions that might arise.
